BALONEY :
I recently viewed a yearbook and was kinda taken back at the students future desire for employment.
For instance :
Fashion Designer
Chef
Soldier
Seafarer
Flight attendant
Model
Caretaker
Nurse
Basketball Player
I wonder about these choices. I wonder if they have counselors in high school to direct them and prepare them for a future in the world.
This is not a complete list but you can see what I mean.

umm…here in the Philippines you will see that mostly only the girls are seriously interested and education on a huge ratio like for in a room there are 32 boys and 25 girls 23 of those girls and only like 8 boys will take their education seriously. i’m afraid the Philippines has turned into a retarded country, there is no use blaming it on crisis, what you do is your decision and not to be blamed on others…
The real question is how serious do philipino parents takes their kids education. I’m a Filipino living here in the UK and day after day if my life I am constantly remimded how important my education is (i’m sure I could say the same for other Filipinos out there). They want me to become a doctor (I know right, so original) and they talk about it like it’s the only job that exist. If you fail at something at school, let’s say a test, you imediately fail at life itself. Actually I just recently told my mum that I did not do well in my English essay and got a C; her reply: ” so now what are you going to do with your life?” Harsh I know but you get the idea. I think that’s why fil students take education seriously cause they were brought to think that way.
well they’re really serious. when it comes to studies filipinos really study and focus.
You should be impress that Filipino kids like to dream about their future careers, they have the drive and ambition, but most do not have the means. So most students are encourage by teachers and parents to dream or plan ahead even if it proves quite unrealistic. I think this is where the colonial mindset of the “American Dream” rubs off, the belief that you can go pass your social strata or economic status in life if you work or study hard.
Finishing High school and college is a big deal. Most school counselors from my experience don’t give a shit, its the parent’s support and nagging that makes pinoy kids take their studies seriously. We do have dropouts, but for most this is due to poverty, not because the kids hate school.
What’s the point of doing so when chances are, you will still end up with a dead-end job no matter how great your degree is. Many people there with nursing/engineering degrees end up working in call centers, in some cases, even fast foods.
When I went to high school there, counselors did not exist. I don’t know if they do now.
well i take my education very seriously. what is wrong with those jobs? if those are their desires…let it be. Fashion designer, FA, nurse, model, chef…nothing is wrong with those occupations. if they love doing it then they will be successful in it. success needs drive and passion…if you make students take something they don’t want then they will not take it seriously. trust me thats from experience. now, im taking up marine biology and that is my joy…and if you say im not taking my education seriously because my desire of employment is a marine biologist…then thats just sad :\
